Oil Changes for Cars, Trucks & Diesels

Spencer’s Auto & Diesel changes the oil on gas cars, trucks, SUVs and light-duty diesel trucks at our shop at 1734 NE 2nd Ave in Ocala. Every oil change includes a free multi-point inspection by an ASE certified technician, so you leave knowing what your vehicle needs now and what can wait.

Fresh oil keeps your engine’s moving parts cool, clean and protected. Florida heat, short trips and towing break oil down faster than the sticker on your windshield assumes, which is why we look at how you drive before we tell you when to come back. While your vehicle is on the lift, we can add a free tire rotation and take a quick look at your brakes.

What’s Included in Every Oil Change

Gas Engine Oil Change

Cars, SUVs, minivans and gas trucks

  • Drain old oil and replace the oil filter
  • Refill with up to 5 quarts of synthetic-blend oil in the grade your engine calls for
  • Free 16-point inspection: brakes, belts, hoses, fluids, lights and tires
  • Check tire pressure and look for oil or fluid leaks
  • Reset your oil life monitor and update your next-service sticker

Light-Duty Diesel Oil Change

Ford Power Stroke, Chevy and GMC Duramax, RAM Cummins

  • Drain old oil and replace the oil filter
  • Refill with up to 16 quarts of diesel engine oil that meets your manufacturer’s spec
  • Free 22-point inspection built around diesel wear points
  • Check for leaks around the oil pan, turbo lines and filter housings
  • Note when your fuel filter and other diesel maintenance items are due

Need more than 5 quarts on a gas engine or 16 on a diesel? We’ll tell you before we start.

Signs It’s Time for an Oil Change

Oil life or maintenance light is on
Your vehicle’s computer tracks engine hours and conditions. When it asks for service, believe it.

Oil pressure warning
Pull over and check the level. Low oil pressure can damage an engine in minutes.

Dark, gritty oil on the dipstick
Clean oil is amber. Black, sludgy or gritty oil has stopped protecting your engine.

Louder engine or ticking noise
Thin or low oil lets metal parts tap against each other, especially on startup.

Burning oil smell
Often a leak dripping onto the exhaust. We check for leaks during every oil change.

You’re past the mileage on your sticker
Or it’s been six months or more since your last change, even with low miles.

Synthetic-Blend Oil

Our standard oil change uses a synthetic blend, a mix of conventional and synthetic oil that holds up better to heat than conventional oil alone. It’s the right fit for most everyday cars and trucks around Ocala.

Full Synthetic Oil

Many newer engines, especially turbocharged ones, require full synthetic oil. It resists breakdown in high heat and flows faster on startup. If your owner’s manual calls for it, we’ll use it.

High-Mileage Oil

Engines over 75,000 miles can benefit from high-mileage oil, which contains seal conditioners that help slow small leaks and oil burning. Ask us whether it makes sense for your vehicle.

Diesel Engine Oil

Diesels make more soot and run higher compression than gas engines, so they need oil rated for diesel service and a larger oil capacity. Our techs work on Power Stroke, Duramax and Cummins engines every day as part of our light-duty diesel repair service.

How Our Oil Change Works

Call ahead or stop by during shop hours. Here is what happens once your vehicle is in the bay.

  1. Check in. We confirm your vehicle, engine and the oil type your manufacturer specifies.
  2. Drain and replace. Old oil comes out, a new filter goes on, and fresh oil goes in to the correct level.
  3. Inspect. Your technician runs the multi-point inspection while the vehicle is on the lift.
  4. Walk you through it. We show you what we found, explain what’s urgent and what can wait, and never push extra work.

How Often Should You Change Your Oil in Florida?

Follow your owner’s manual first. Most manuals list two schedules, and Florida driving often falls under the severe one.

How you drive Which schedule to follow What that usually means
Mostly highway, light loads Normal schedule Typically every 5,000 to 7,500 miles on synthetic blend
Short trips, stop-and-go, summer heat Severe schedule Shorter intervals, often 3,000 to 5,000 miles
Towing, hauling or idling for long periods Severe schedule Shorter intervals; diesels may need oil analysis
Work trucks and fleet vehicles Engine hours or severe schedule Set a schedule by use; see our fleet maintenance program

Mileage ranges are general guidance. Your manual and oil life monitor take priority.

Oil Change FAQs

Every oil change includes draining the old oil, a new oil filter, fresh oil in your engine’s specified grade, and a free multi-point inspection of brakes, belts, hoses, fluids, lights and tires. Gas engines get up to 5 quarts of synthetic-blend oil and a 16-point inspection; light-duty diesels get up to 16 quarts and a 22-point inspection.
Follow your owner’s manual, and use the severe-service schedule if you make short trips, sit in stop-and-go traffic, tow, or drive in summer heat, which describes most Ocala driving. For many vehicles that means every 3,000 to 5,000 miles on the severe schedule or 5,000 to 7,500 miles on the normal one.
Yes. We change oil on light-duty diesel trucks and vans, including Ford Power Stroke, Chevy and GMC Duramax, and RAM Cummins engines, along with diesel work vans and box trucks. We do not service semi-trucks.
Most gas-engine oil changes are finished in under an hour. Diesel oil changes take longer because of the larger oil capacity. Call ahead and we’ll give you a time.

No. Federal law lets you have maintenance done at any shop without voiding your new-vehicle warranty, as long as the correct oil and filter are used and you keep your records. We use oil that meets your manufacturer’s specification and give you a receipt for your files.
Yes. A tire rotation is free when you purchase any other service, including an oil change. Just ask for it when you check in.
